Sensory-friendly fireworks and Bonfire Night 2026 (Bonfire Night 2026)
Bonfire Night is Thursday 5 November 2026, and most low-noise and quieter displays run from Saturday 31 October to Sunday 8 November. Many big displays now add an earlier, quieter show before the main one, such as Manchester's free 5pm reduced-noise displays on 7 November. A few events skip fireworks altogether. Low-noise fireworks are not silent, so it still helps to plan ear defenders and an easy way out.

Coping with Bonfire Night
- Low noise does not mean silent. A fireworks supplier explains that there is no completely silent firework. You still hear a launch thud, soft pops and whooshing, just without the sharp bangs.
- Go to the early show. Many displays now run a quieter show first, such as Manchester's 5pm reduced-noise displays and Beckenham's 6pm quieter display. They are also earlier for tired children.
- Prepare with pictures and practice. SEND parents writing for BritMums suggest using visuals, pointing out loud noises in everyday life, and trying a smaller display a few days before the big one.
- Bring ear defenders and plan an exit. Even low-noise organisers, such as Calderstones in Liverpool, encourage ear protection. Choose a spot where leaving is easy, so nobody has to wait it out.
- Watch from further away. Some families watch from a distance, from their garden or from the car at a lookout point. Dress in layers and bring blankets, as children may not notice they are cold.
- Try an event with no fireworks. Lancashire Wildlife Trust's tots' bonfire at The Hive in Bolton has no fireworks or loud rides, and Printworks in Manchester uses digital fireworks.
